Weekend Rundown

The Weekend Rundown is back. We have made a few changes on what we will include in it. If enough things are happening over the weekend we will be sure to publish one every Friday. If you want more information on the event just click on it and it will redirect you to the event. Don't forget mom this weekend and congratulations to the graduates of UMW.


Friday, May 6th


Tai Chi Tai Chi (tie chee) meets on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. It is a gentle form of ancient Chinese exercise that was originally developed for self-defense (with rapid moves), but has evolved into what some call "meditation in motion." If you want to reduce stress and anxiety, while increasing flexibility and balance, come join this class. No charge.


Metal Mayhem At The Covellite Theatre Metal Mayhem at The Covellite Theatre featuring My Fist Your Face, Blessiddoom and Ugly Pony. Kick off your summer with some blistering metal. All ages, bar with ID. $3

Opening Night Art Show Opening Night Art Show will feature artists Cory Birkenbuel and Jesse Scofield on May 6, 2022 from 5-7PM at Birkenbuel Brands- 34 N. Idaho St. Suite 1, Dillon, Montana.


Legacy Plaza Ceremony Please join us for an additional ceremony honoring the 2022 Graduating Class that will be held on Friday, May 6, at 3:30 p.m. on the campus’s Legacy Plaza.

This celebration is part of a special tradition at Montana Western held at the end of each academic year on the eve of the Commencement Ceremony that celebrates and honors the graduates for the completion of their degrees and the legacy that they will leave at UMW.



Luncheon Honoring J.P. Gallagher and the UMW Classes of 1972 and 1997 The Montana Western Alumni Office will host a luncheon in the Lewis and Clark Room in Mathews Hall on Friday, May 6, at 11:30 a.m. to honor Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient, J.P. Gallagher, and the Montana Western classes of 1972 and 1997.

Tickets are $15 and available by calling 406-683-7306.

Gallagher will be recognized for the award during the Commencement Ceremony on May 7.


Mary Frances O'Connor book signing and discussion Mary Frances O'Connor will be discussing her new book The Grieving Brain: The Surprising Science of How We Learn from Love and Loss. The book talk will begin at 5:30


Saturday, May 7th


125th Annual Commencement Ceremony The University of Montana Western will celebrate its 125th Annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 10 a.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium on the UMW campus.


VanDerveer Community Dribble Please join Stanford Hall of Fame Coach, Tara VanDerveer, for this community event on Saturday, May 7th at 4:30 PM in Legacy Plaza on the University of Montana Western campus. The VanDerveer Community Dribble is a community event hosted by UMW. Tara VanDerveer, the Stanford Women’s Basketball coach will lead the Dribble.

Please bring a non–perishable food item when you arrive. All proceeds will benefit the Beaverhead Food Pantry.

The first 300 registered participants will receive a free basketball at check-in. We will dribble our way to BW Lodge at 5 PM. Everybody is invited to join the hotshot contest with prizes being awarded to the top competitors in each age/gender division. The Derby Fireman’s Ball The Kentucky Derby will be shown on site with betting, silent auction items, hat decoration contest, best dressed couple, great food and end the night with great music! This event is hosted by the Ruby Valley Chamber with proceeds going to the Fire departments in the Valley.


MTA Banquet Join us for a fun evening of raffles, games, prizes, dinner, no host bar.



The Hunt for Bass Monsters Some of Montana's top bass music artists from a variety of genres will be presenting music on a next level sound system and lighting rig at Butte's historic Covellite Theatre. Live painters will be creating new works during the show. Monsters or Monster hunters costumes are strongly recommended.

Yuputka (formerly Wargasm)- Butte's Yuputka has emerged again to throw down the heaviest tunes to really get the crowd going.

Live Painters - Coty Carlson and Cameshia Mitchel will be creating new original art work partly inspired by the tunes.

Production for this event is the new standard set by Not Sure and Unreal Productions - We are bringing the one of a kind high resolution sound system with custom state of the art 21" horn loaded subs. Not Sure is also providing full visual VJ sets for each artist. We are also bringing next level lasers and lights to really make this an immersive experience.



Sunday, May 8th


Sunday Serenades Event by Willy James Dillon Tap House reached out to me. They said to support my cause with my recent Becker's Muscular Dystrophy diagnosis they are going to donate $1 from every beer sold on Sunday and Monday in the month of May. In response I have decided to play every Sunday in May


Mom's Day Soiree Yummy Family Brunch (Mom eats free) + ALL about MOM Spa Raffle + Live MUSIC + Kids Crafts & More (Last plate served @ 1pm)

Moms: Free Adults: $15 Kids: $10 (under age 10)
