This weekend Dillon was the place to be for baseball the Maybelle Arthur Memorial Tournament was held on June 23rd and 24th at Ray Lynch Park. Both the Dillon Cubs B team along with the Beaverhead Bomb Squad 12U and 10U played against teams from across the state.
The Beaverhead Bomb Squad 12U won 11 to 1 over the Butte Lions they then beat out the Butte Dirtballers to take the gold and win the tournament. The Beaverhead Bombsquad 10U won the first game over the Butte Dirtballers 13 to 1 but lost the second game to Challis to take home the silver.
The Dillon Cubs B team played games on both Friday and Saturday. The Cubs started the tournament off with a win over Anaconda 11 to 10. The second game of the day was cancelled due to a rain delay and running late into the evening. On Saturday the Cubs B team took on The Bronc's and lost 5 to 12. Sunday the Dillon Cubs A team would take on the Butte Miners a recap of both games are as follows:
Game 1
Dillon Cubs snatched the lead late in the game in a 5-3 victory over Butte Miners on Sunday. The game was tied at two with the Cubs batting in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored one run for the Cubs.
Dillon got things started in the first inning. The Cubs scored one run when Damon Skradski singled.
Skradski took the win for the Cubs. The ace surrendered three runs on eight hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Cohen Hartman threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Rye Doherty was on the pitcher's mound for Butte Miners. The pitcher surrendered five runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking one. The Cubs had seven hits in the game. Skradski and Andrew Bartlome each collected multiple hits for the Cubs. Bartlome and Skradski each managed two hits to lead. Butte Miners racked up eight hits. Doherty and Tocher Lee all managed multiple hits for Butte Miners.
Game 2:
Dillon watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 20-3 loss to Butte Miners on Sunday. Butte Miners scored on a single by Anthony Knott, a double by Rye Doherty, a sacrifice fly by Kaden Mcgillen, an error, and a single by Sean Ossello in the first inning.
The Cubs struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Butte Miners, giving up 20 runs.
Butte Miners got on the board in the first inning. Knott singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
Butte Miners scored eight runs in the second inning. Butte Miner’s big inning was driven by a triple by Doherty, a single by Tocher Lee, a sac fly by Kevin Donaldson, by Cayde Stajcar, and by Stajcar.
Gavin Trudgeon led the Butte Miners to victory on the mound. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out four. Trey Hansen threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Cohen Hartman took the loss for the Cubs. Hartman surrendered 14 runs on eight hits over one inning. Hartman, Trenton Moreni, Kale Konen, and Andrew Bartlome each collected one hit to lead the Cubs. Butte Miners tallied 13 hits in the game. Ossello, Doherty, and Knott each had multiple hits for the Butte Miners. Ossello led the Butte Miners with four hits in four at bats.
