MELROSE, MT – Authorities are conducting an investigation following a tragic incident on the south end of Melrose in Silver Bow County, where a male adult was struck and killed by a northbound Union Pacific train.


Preliminary findings indicate that the 58-year-old man was standing on the railroad track as the train approached. Despite the train crew sounding an audible alarm and applying the brakes, they were unable to stop in time. Eyewitness reports suggest that the man was aware of the approaching train but did not move from his position on the tracks.


The identity of the deceased male, a resident of Melrose, is being withheld pending notification of his family. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
