GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Montana Western men's basketball team (12-14, 5-8) lost their third straight game after falling in a road conference matchup to the University of Providence (13-13, 6-7) by a final score of 81-73.

The Argos picked up 20 of their points off of 27 shots at the free throw line in the game. UP held a 27-7 free throw edge in the game.

How it Happened

The Bulldogs got the early 13-4 lead as the Bulldogs went 3-4 from the arc in the first five minutes of the game. A jumper from Jalyn Stepney paired with a three from Kayden Toldson stretched the Bulldog lead to their largest margin of the game at 20-7 with 13:07 left in the first half.

A well-matched remainder of the half left the Bulldogs out in front 36-30 heading into the second half. UMW hit an impressive 6-11 from the arc in the half and shot 48.4 percent from the field.

Following a solid first half, the Bulldogs came back to a different Providence team in the second half. They would go on to flip the lead in no time, running on a four-minute stretch that saw UP outscore Western 11-3 from right from the start.

The University of Providence stretched their lead out to as much as 13 with 7:18 left in the game, enough to keep the Bulldogs at an arms' distance away for the remainder of the game.

It was Stepney once again who hit a jumper to cut the lead to five, but UP's Jevon Burton answered quickly with a three that sealed the deal and put the Bulldogs down eight with under a minute to play. The Argos finished the win, outscoring the Bulldogs by 14 points in the second half to win 81-73.
