The Beaverhead County Varsity Beavers showcased an impressive performance on Thursday, topping the Broadwater Varsity Bulldogs 17-2. Cohen Hartman led the charge with four RBIs on three hits, including a key single in the first inning that scored two runs and a double in the fourth inning that added two more.
The Beavers swiftly took control of the game in the top of the first inning. Hartman’s single started the scoring, followed by Ivan VanHorne grounding out to bring in another run. An error on the Bulldogs allowed two additional runs to score, and another run crossed the plate on a subsequent play, establishing an early lead.
A double by Marcus Lagunas in the second inning further extended the Beavers' lead to 8-0, solidifying their dominance.
The Beavers added to their momentum in the third inning, scoring five runs on three hits. A wild pitch allowed two runs to score, followed by Trenton Moreni doubling to bring one run home and Lagunas tripling to drive in two more runs.
On the mound, Kanin Englehardt earned the win for the Beavers, giving up only two hits and two runs over four innings while striking out two batters and walking none. Beau Sumner took the loss for the Bulldogs, allowing eight runs (five earned) on four hits during his one and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Beaverhead County Varsity Beavers tallied a total of 11 hits in the game. Moreni collected two hits in two at-bats and contributed to the team’s aggressive base running, where the Beavers stole a remarkable 11 bases throughout the game. Additionally, the team executed one double play, showcasing their strong defensive skills.
Dallas Fligge led the team with one RBI, while Colby Flynn and Wyatt Hensley each recorded one hit for the Bulldogs.
The Beaverhead County Varsity Beavers will play at home on Tuesday against the Lone Peak Varsity Big Horns in their next game.
